BABIES PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

Babies Photography:

Most people recommend taking a babies photography session within the first ten days of their baby's life. When babies are so small, they are usually very sleepy, which is good for photos. Why? Because a sleeping baby does not cry, does not have crossed eyes, does not have a huge pacifier in his mouth and does not shake his arms uncontrollably (all of which happens quite regularly when he is awake). Sleeping newborns look sweet and peaceful, while awake newborns can look a little uncomfortable. If you start your photo session while the baby is asleep, you can get many sweet and sleepy images, and then some more when you wake up.

Another reason to do a photo shoot for newborns shortly after birth is because babies change so quickly the first few months, and you should not miss the opportunity to photograph that tiny newborn appearance. Does this mean you can not get good photos when your baby has three weeks instead of seven days? Of course, no. But before it can be simpler, which is always good.

Plan to configure everything you need for your photo session early in the day. Then keep your baby active and awake for a while, then feed him, then get ready to take pictures when she begins to fall asleep.

Plan to spend at least an hour to get good shots. I usually spend two hours when I photograph a newborn (some professionals spend twice as much time). If you are taking pictures of your own baby, you can also plan to spend only half an hour, but try once a day during the first week. Find out what will work best for your schedule, but keep in mind that this will not be a quick process. In addition, the photo session will be much easier if you have someone to help you, so make your spouse/mother/friend your assistant.

I think that newborns are better photographed naked, or in just a diaper, or in a white jumpsuit. Most baby clothes are too big for newborns and they just do not shoot very well. Keeping clothes extremely simple keeps the focus on the baby. However, naked babies are cold babies, so keep a portable heater with your baby the entire time you are photographing. You will end up covered in sweat, but your baby will stay comfortable for a newborn photography session.
